Gurnee police investigate threat at River Trail School

On Dec. 8, the School Resource Officer for River Trail School was made aware of a verbal threat made by a student, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department Wednesday evening. Police, along with school administrators, investigated the incident and the student was removed from school the next day. The student remains out of school pending further investigation.

No weapon was found inside the school, and the student does not have access to a weapon, police said. While there have been rumors that the student made a list of targeted classmates, no such list has been found, the release stated.

The Gurnee Police Department and school district are working together to provide accurate information as quickly as possible in accordance with juvenile laws and the privacy of all involved. This event poses no threat to our students, school staff, and the community.
