Police release names of 2 people killed in truck-bus crash

KOUTS, Ind. (AP) - Police have released the names of a northwestern Indiana couple killed when their pickup truck collided head-on with a school bus.

The Porter County Sheriff's Department says Tuesday morning's crash about 20 miles southeast of Gary killed 47-year-old Michael A. Shelton of Wheatfield and his 44-year-old wife, Kelly C. Shelton of Merrillville.

Police say Michael Shelton was driving a pickup truck along Indiana 8 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Hebron school bus about 11:20 a.m. CDT.

Police don't know why the truck crossed into oncoming traffic near the town of Kouts.

The MSD Boone Township school bus driver and two students, ages 17 and 18, were treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.

Tuesday's crash closed Indiana 8 for about three hours.
