Man critically injured after being hit by car in Aurora

An 82-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car while crossing New York Street from Kendall Street on the near east side of Aurora, authorities said.

Police said the injured man, who authorities are not yet identifying, apparently walked in front of a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice that was traveling west on New York Street about 7:25 a.m.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old Aurora man, tried unsuccessfully to swerve to miss the pedestrian. Police said a citation for driving without proof of insurance is pending against the driver.

The pedestrian was being treated for his injuries at an Aurora hospital, authorities said.

Aurora police said they are continuing to investigate.
