Special needs playground almost done in South Elgin

A South Elgin playground accessible to kids with disabilities will have its grand opening Aug. 8.

The $1.3 million project at SEBA Park along the Fox River was initially slated to open in mid-July but was delayed after Gov. Bruce Rauner suspended all grants for park district construction projects, including $400,000 for South Elgin.

In the meantime, the village has decided to pay the grant money upfront while hoping state funding will be reinstated.

The playground is spearheaded by the FUNdation of South Elgin, which continues to fundraise for the initiative.
