Naperville woman charged after making false gun report at Buffalo Grove Theatre

A Naperville woman has been charged with disorderly conduct after she falsely reported a man at the Buffalo Grove Theatre was threatening to shoot employees, according to a Buffalo Grove police report.

When police arrived at the scene one day last week, they found no one with a weapon. Kimberley Benjamin admitted she got "caught up in the moment" when she reported a man had a gun, the report said.

The man Benjamin reported had gotten into a "heated" argument with an employee after he became frustrated with technical issues at the theater, according to the report. The man and his mother were issued a refund for the movie and then handcuffed by police while trying to leave the theater. They were released after police searched their car and didn't find any weapons, the report said.

A hearing for Benjamin is scheduled for Oct. 5 at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall.
