Arlington Hts. honors volunteer with Kenneth Hood senior service award

The Arlington Heights village board on Monday presented resident Julie Wright with the eighth annual Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award.

Wright has helped prepare seniors' taxes for more than 30 years, taught Rules of the Road review courses, helped seniors fill out Medicare insurance forms and taught herself how to use computers to keep others at the Senior Center updated on technology, said Village President Tom Hayes.

Wright accepted the award at Monday's village board meeting.

"It's been a wonderful experience," she said. "I love people and I find Arlington Heights a fantastic place."

Hood, for whom the torch-shaped award is named, died in 2007. The award is meant to be carried on by others who volunteer their time to help support senior citizens in Arlington Heights.
