Regulators issue safety order against Indiana foundry

TELL CITY, Ind. (AP) - Indiana regulators have issued a safety order against a southern Indiana foundry following an investigation into an employee's workplace injury.

The Department of Labor says Waupaca Foundry has safety violations that include not following safety procedures and insufficient barricades.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1QcPXDn ) the state proposes Waupaca pay $20,000 in penalties.

Department spokeswoman Amanda Stanley says the employee injured in the July 17 accident at Waupaca's Tell City operation was doing electrical maintenance when an electrical flash occurred.

That flash caused second- and third-degree burns to the employee's right arm, as well as first-degree facial burns.

Waupaca says the employee has since returned to work "in full capacity."

The company says in a statement that "Waupaca immediately implemented and will continue to take corrective actions as identified."
