New Age Spa Institute , local skin care school donates to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

From Marilyn Monroe and Kurt Cobain to the most recent loss of Anthony Bourdain, suicide continues to spread throughout the country and the world. Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day and for 15 years people all over the world have been committed to speaking out about suicide prevention.

Suicide is on a rise in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S. alone, nearly 45,000 lives were lost to suicide. From 1999 to 2016, rates increased in every state with Illinois seeing a 22.8 percent increase.

Suicide doesn't discriminate, affecting people of all ages, races, and sexes. A local esthetics, nail technology, makeup artistry, and massage school New Age Spa Institute is getting on board to help spread the word about suicide prevention.

"Suicide takes people away from us every day," Monika Machej, founder and president of NASI said. "This year's theme 'Working Together to Prevent Suicide,' was a perfect fit for us because we are always working as a team and dedicating our time to the community."

During the entire month of September, New Age Spa Institute located in Des Plaines, will donate all proceeds collected from services such as facials, body treatments or massages, to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
