Portillo's founder to speak at Elmhurst College event
ELMHURST - Portillo's restaurant founder Dick Portillo will talk about his career and life with Lee Daniels, senior adviser to the president of Elmhurst College, during "From Hot Dogs to Top Dog: A Conversation With Dick Portillo," on November 22 at Elmhurst College.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel, 190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst.
In 1963, Portillo opened a hot dog stand in Villa Park. That grew into a successful fast-casual restaurant chain with several locations in the Chicago area, as well as California, Indiana and Arizona. The Portillo's chain was sold to the private equity firm Berkshire Partners in 2014.
