Final Phase Planned for Alleghany Park
The Grayslake Community Park District will be holding a public hearing for the final phase of proposed recreational development at Alleghany Park (31999 North Alleghany Road, Grayslake).
A public hearing will take place on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 6:30pm at the Grayslake Park District Recreation Center, 240 Commerce Drive, Grayslake. If you are unable to attend the hearing, the concept plan will be on display at the Recreation Center and Grayslake Area Public Library through Wednesday, July 31.
The proposed development for Phase 3 will include: two soccer fields, two lacrosse/field hockey fields, two t-ball/small baseball fields, a fitness challenge course, a tot play area, a 1.4 mile interpretive nature/fitness trail that will connect with the existing trail, picnic/overlook shelters along the trail, restrooms, and additional parking.
"We began working on Alleghany Park in 2004 and development of the third phase will complete the 95-acre park," said Grayslake Park District Executive Director Kristin Splitt. "The addition of an interpretive nature trail, the challenge course, and more athletic fields will make Alleghany Park a destination for all ages."
The Grayslake Park District is applying for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to help finance recreation development at the park. OSLAD grants are awarded to local governments to develop land for public outdoor recreation. The initial two phases of Alleghany Park development were funded through OSLAD grants.
The public's comments, suggestions, and support will greatly benefit the grant application. The public is encouraged to attend the public hearing to learn more about the project and voice their opinions.
