Are tires safe for artificial turf?

The Arlington Heights Park District plans to add artificial turf at Sunset Meadows as mentioned in the October 31 Herald.

The piece does not mention if this turf uses ground up auto tires as a component. Recent studies announced the tires' composition is a carcinogen that has affected many young athletes across the nation with various forms of cancer.

Has the park district investigated the manufacturer of this turf to determine the process ingredients? Why take a chance on exposing AH kids to this health concern?
