Foodie 5K coming to Libertyville this weekend
There is still time for runners and walkers to sign up for the Foodie 5K presented by Meijer, which makes its debut in Lake County this Saturday, May 9 with a trail run at Adler Park in Libertyville.
Northern Illinois Food Bank's fun run/walk features a post-race festival with entertainment, food trucks and activities for kids. Registration is ongoing at www.SolveHungerToday.org/Foodie5K.
The Foodie 5K presented by Meijer is a chip-timed race open to all ages. All registered participants receive a shirt, a $2 food truck voucher to be used at the post-race festival and more. Participating food trucks are Babycakes, Chicago Pizza Boss, Cupcakes for Courage and Toasty Cheese Mobile Eatery.
All participants are encouraged to fund raise, and anyone who raises more than $100 is eligible to receive prizes that include a waist pack runner's belt, a folding cooler chair and an Amazon gift card. All funds will benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank, where $1 donated provides $8 worth of food for neighbors in need. Northern Illinois Food Bank provides food to more than 71,000 people each week through a network of more than 800 community food pantries and feeding programs in 13 counties.
Registration is $35. The registration fee for ages 6-12 is $15, and ages 0-5 are free. There will be no registration the day of the race.
The Foodie 5K in Libertyville is the second of three Foodie 5K events taking place in 2015. Registration is also ongoing for the Foodie 5K on Oct. 3 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, offering the unique opportunity for participants to run and walk on the 1.5-mile race track. The first Foodie 5K of the year was held April 11 in Wheaton and attracted more than 1,200 participants.
