Naperville man convicted of murder in fatal bar stabbing

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A 30-year-old Naperville man has been convicted of fatally stabbing a second-grade teacher at a crowded bar more than three years ago.

Daniel Olaska was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in the death of 24-year-old Shaun Wild. He was acquitted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder in the stabbings of Willie Hayes and Rafael Castenada.

Defense attorneys argued Olaska was acting in self-defense when he initially stabbed Hayes on Feb. 4, 2012 inside Frankie's Blue Room.

Wild was fatally stabbed through his heart after trying to confront Olaska. Castenada was stabbed while he and other bouncers attempted to detain Olaska.

Olaska is scheduled to return to court on April 9. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

His lead defense attorney said he plans to appeal the verdict.
