Gurnee school in firehouse ceremony

Woodland Intermediate students will participate in the annual Keep the Wreath Red ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Gurnee Fire Department Station 2, 6581 Dada Drive. Keep the Wreath Red is an annual program that encourages the Gurnee community to practice care with holiday decorations. As part of the program, both Gurnee firehouses display a wreath lit in red lights. If a fire is caused by holiday decorations, one of the light bulbs is changed to white in remembrance of the accident. "Our students will play an active part in the effort to keep the wreath lit in red lights," Woodland Intermediate Assistant Principal Tim Tyrell said. "We look forward to partnering with the Gurnee Fire Department each winter to commemorate this annual event." Ten fifth grade student leaders will take part in a ceremony to light the holiday wreath. Their visit will include a tour of the fire station.
