Paint-A-Thon applications now being accepted

The 27th annual Community Paint-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13. Applications are now available for this fall community service project. The program provides the painting of exterior single family homes at no cost to those who meet the criteria.

To qualify, homes must be owned and occupied by people with limited financial resources and the owners must be at least 60 years of age or have a permanent disability that hinders them from doing the work themselves.

Homes that have peeling, fading or worn paint, should consider applying. Once a home is determined eligible, volunteer teams are matched to do the scraping, priming and painting of the house.

The Community Paint-A-Thon covers 10 townships including Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Maine, New Trier, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling.

If you or someone you know needs their home painted, please contact Catholic Charities at (847) 253-5500. Applications are due by June 15.

The Paint-A-Thon is a communitywide event where teams of volunteers are recruited from businesses, churches, social and civic groups. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Annette Sommer at HandsOn Suburban Chicago at (847) 228-1320.
