Cycle the village during Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg
Experience Schaumburg's bikeways while celebrating its German heritage during the Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg Bike Ride and Picnic.
The Schaumburg Park District's Fahrrad Tour Von Schaumburg, sponsored by the village of Schaumburg and Alexian Brothers Health System, is a police-guided tour that begins at noon Sunday, May 17, at Blackwell Elementary School, 345 N. Walnut Lane and ends at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court.
The more than five-mile, one-hour ride includes a free hot dog or brat, chips and a drink. A limited supply of T-shirts will be available for $10. Entertainment will be provided by a live DJ at the end of the tour.
"It's a fun event for the entire community," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center manager and general program supervisor. "The bike tour encourages participants to come out and get some exercise and fresh air with friends."
Registration is not required. Riders will receive wristbands that allow access to post-race refreshments. Bus transportation for participants and their bikes will be available starting at 1:45 p.m. from the Village Plaza back to Blackwell.
Because of the distance, beginners and riders with training wheels are not advised to participate.
