'Newsies,' 'Bridges of Madison County' part of Marriott's 2017 season

For its 2017 season, Marriott Theatre delivers musicals never before produced on its Lincolnshire stage, including three regional premieres. Moreover, all five productions will be helmed by musical theater heavy-hitters.

The season begins Feb. 8, 2017, with "Mamma Mia!" The jukebox musical inspired by ABBA songs is directed and choreographed by Rachel Rockwell, whose "Ride the Cyclone" remount opens off-Broadway next month.

Marriott artistic director and writer Aaron Thielen directs and choreographs the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick musical "She Loves Me," about battling co-workers who discover they are secret pen pals. Performances begin April 26, 2017.

Performances begin June 21, 2017, for the regional premiere of "The Bridges of Madison County," Jason Robert Brown's musical adaptation of Robert James Waller's 1960s-set novel about an affair between an Iowa housewife and a National Geographic photographer. Nick Bowling directs the show, with musical numbers staged by William Carlos Angulo.

Brown's adaptation of "Honeymoon in Vegas" makes its regional premiere at Marriott under director Gary Griffin and choreographer Denis Jones. Adapted from Andrew Bergman's book and the hit film, it centers on a young couple whose Las Vegas elopement gets sidetracked when a high-roller falls for the woman, who resembles his late wife. Previews begin Aug. 23, 2017.

Marriott's season concludes with the Oct. 25, 2017, regional premiere of "Newsies," by composer Alan Menken, lyricist Jack Feldman and writer Harvey Fierstein. Sanchez directs and choreographs the show, inspired by the 1992 film about the 1899 newsboy strike in New York City.

Performances take place at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Season subscriptions range from $129.50 to $194.50. They're available by phone at (847) 634-0200 or at MarriottTheatre.com.
