Mild temps, partly sunny skies for MLK Day

After a weekend warm-up, mild temperatures will stick around for a pleasant start to the week.

The mercury will climb again Sunday, with partly sunny skies and a high near 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The warm front arrived to the suburbs late Friday night, bringing in temperatures well above freezing and slightly above normal, said Mark Ratzer, a meteorologist at the weather service in Chicago.

Monday also looks to be unseasonable, with some sun and highs near 40 degrees.

There's a small chance - 20 percent - of snow Monday night into Tuesday. Some areas could see only minor accumulations, forecasters say.

On Tuesday, expect mid-30s, too, along with clouds.

Enjoy the weather while it lasts, though. "In January, these temperatures don't last really long," Ratzer said Saturday.

If the latest predictions play out, Ratzer's right. The next round of cold air should hit midweek, with forecasters calling for a high just below freezing Wednesday.

The bright spot? No snow.
