Fatal crash closes southbound I-75 in Birch Run Township

BIRCH RUN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A man hauling scrap with a trailer has been killed after his pickup left Interstate 75 and struck a tree in mid-Michigan's Birch Run Township.

The Saginaw News reports (http://bit.ly/1yLGNpj ) the southbound lanes of the freeway were blocked after the crash which occurred about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Police did not immediately release the driver's name.

Light snow and ice covered the freeway at the time of the crash. Other accidents caused traffic tie-ups Friday along other parts of southbound I-75.
