New Argentina FA chief to be elected in December
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - The new chief of Argentina's football association will be elected on December 3.
The election will pit Marcelo Tinelli, Argentina's most popular variety-show TV host, against veteran soccer boss, Luis Segura. The winner will become president until 2019.
The date and candidates were announced late Thursday by the AFA, as it is known by its acronym in Spanish.
Tinelli is also the vice president of the San Lorenzo soccer club that is favored by the Argentine-born Pope Francis.
Segura has been acting president of the soccer body since the death of longtime president Julio Grondona in late July 2014.
Grondona, who was known as "The Godfather," had been the AFA's president since 1979.
