Learn more about concealed carry law in the workplace
"Concealed Carry in Illinois: What HR Needs to Know" will be explored at Aurora University at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 7. The university's Human Resource Institute, a bimonthly seminar, will host the program at the school's Orchard Center, 2245 Sequoia Drive, Suite 301.
Admission is free. Registration, networking and refreshments will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m., followed by the program from 8 to 9 a.m. The sponsor is the university's Center for Adult and Graduate Studies.
Sonal Shah, labor/employment counsel for the Downers Grove-based Management Association, will discuss employers' rights, requirements and concerns about Illinois' concealed carry law. Shah also will help plan for situations that may arise in workplaces regarding firearms and potential violence.
Shah has experience counseling employers on complying with laws, workforce management and preparing employment and severance agreements. Additionally, she counsels on drafting/revising disciplinary and termination notices, crafting employment policies and handbooks, and providing employment law compliance training for managers, supervisors and HR professionals.
Shah earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from Washington University, St. Louis.
