Des Plaines man gets probation for 2005 battery

A Des Plaines man pleaded guilty Tuesday to attacking a 7-old-girl nine years ago.
In exchange for his guilty plea, Gabriel Torres, 59, was sentenced to two years probation, prosecutors said.
The girl and her family were present for the plea, prosecutors said.
The girl and her brother were playing at Torres' home in October 2005 when he asked the boy to purchase snacks, prosecutors said during Torres' bail hearing earlier this year. After the boy left, Torres locked the door and attacked the girl, who screamed and ran home.
Earlier this year, the girl reported the attack to a friend and school counselor, which led to Torres' arrest, prosecutors said.
