Letter to Editor: Geneva police contract was bad

I would like to thank Geneva aldermen Simonian, Cummings and Marks for their no vote to approve the police union contract. Collectively, the three aldermen showed courage and common sense by casting their no vote. They did their duty and voted in the best interest of their constituents.

I believe it was Albert Einstein who stated that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The 7-3 approval of this contract is repeating the past and present colossal financial failures of public union contracts and pensions throughout the state of Illinois and the entire United States. We have mountains of clear and concise evidence that these contracts, pensions and benefits are unsustainable and yet, seven of our Geneva Aldermen chose to approve another financial catastrophe. The "tin can" they are kicking down the road has become the size of an oil drum and we the taxpayer are left to clean up the mess.
