Extended runway would give citizens nothing
Mr. E. Allan Englehardt's recent common-sense Guest View about the Chicago Executive Airport should be heeded by the CEA commission and the elected officials of Wheeling and Prospect Heights. These two towns, which own the airport, derive no income from its operations except for the taxes paid for gasoline it sells. Homes, condos and apartments would have to be purchased at fair market value and relocation expenses paid to residents just so a few jets could fly overseas without stopping to refuel.
Where is the money going to come from for this boondoggle? The state and federal governments are almost bankrupt, our taxes keep going up, and what do we citizens get for this? Try having a conversation or listening to TV when these jets fly overhead - many at 10 p.m. and later.
Additionally, the rumors flying around town that cargo jets will be using CEA because O'Hare doesn't want cargo anymore and that the NTSB is asking people if they want to sell their homes. Irresponsible people saying it's a done deal should be run out of both towns.
I pray that common sense prevails and this entire idea is put to bed never to wake up again. Maybe it's time for a new airport commission and elected officials.
