Incumbents trump newcomers for Grayslake trustee
Grayslake voters decided to stay the course in Tuesday's election.
Trustees Ron Jarvis, Elizabeth Davies and Kevin Waldenstrom won the three available four-year village board seats. Quin O'Brien and newcomer Mary Klees fell short.
With 19 of 19 precincts counted, Davies garnered 26.8 percent of votes, followed by Waldenstrom with 23.6 percent and Jarvis with 21.1 percent. Klees remained close behind with 20 percent, trailing Jarvis by just 53 votes in the unofficial results. And O'Brien got 8.5 percent of votes.
"We're all real happy because we can continue on with the good work we've been doing," Jarvis said.
All of the candidates floated ideas on how they wanted to help the community.
Jarvis said he'd like to rekindle the idea of building a tunnel under the downtown railroad tracks north of Center Street. Jarvis, a village board trustee since 2007, said this concept would be different from previous proposals by not going directly through a shuttered gelatin factory on the east side of the downtown tracks.
Davies, a full-time mother who was appointed to the village board in late 2014, wants to recognize historic homes in the heritage neighborhood with official plaques.
Waldenstrom, a board member since 2009 who's a real estate broker and mold inspection business owner, said he wants to pursue a quality restaurant for the Route 83 corridor.
