Lake Co. Sheriff seeks national accreditation

Lake County Sheriff's police say the department is beefing up its credentials in hopes of becoming an elite law enforcement agency.

Sheriff Mark Curran Jr. said a contract has been signed to seek accreditation through an organization called the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, of CALEA. Curran said he wants the sheriff's office to become the pre-eminent public safety agency in Lake County.

"We will be known for our leadership, contemporary practices, and use of technology," he said.

CALEA is the process of voluntarily complying with a set of professional standards dealing with policies and procedures. It is based on established professional policing practices.
