Father of ex-Detroit mayor now on supervised release
DETROIT (AP) - The father of ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is on supervised release following time in prison and a halfway house for his tax crime conviction tied to a City Hall corruption probe.
The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/1LUYZ4e ) Friday's update from federal prison officials and 73-year-old Bernard Kilpatrick's defense lawyer comes about four months after he was released from a Texas federal prison into a Dallas-area halfway house.
He reported for prison in January 2014. He still must serve one year of supervised release and pay $62,000 to the Internal Revenue Service for submitting a false tax return by failing to disclose $180,000 in income.
Kwame Kilpatrick is serving 28 years in federal prison for racketeering conspiracy and other crimes. The government says he raked in cash through rigged contracts and bribes.
