Heating assistance available in Lake County

Low income residents may apply for grant assistance to help pay for energy bills through the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

The priority period for heating assistance begins Oct. 1 for the elderly and disabled; Nov. 1 for families with children age 5 whose service has been disconnected; and, Dec. 1, when all low-income households are eligible to apply.

To apply for assistance, call the Community Action Partnership, 1200 W. Glen Flora Ave., Waukegan, at (847) 249-4330 to schedule an appointment. Applications will be taken through May 31, 2016 or until funding is exhausted. The program also provides funds to make homes more energy efficient.
