Man held after couple, 87 and 85, slain at suburban Detroit

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Oakland County authorities say a 53-year-old man has been arrested after a couple in their 80s were found beaten to death in a vehicle parked in the garage of their suburban Detroit home.

Lt. Steve Schneider said in a statement Tuesday that a woman called Monday to say that she'd been unable to reach her parents in Rochester Hills since Saturday.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac (http://bit.ly/1Gqyqn9 ) says deputies found the bodies of 87-year-old William J. Maurer and 85-year-old Gayle B. Maurer. The county medical examiner's office says they were beaten to death.

Undersheriff Michael McCabe says investigators found what they think is the weapon.

Schneider says deputies arrested a 53-year-old resident of the home. He says the man has a history of mental illness and drug and alcohol abuse.
