Aurora cops ask for help in beating probe

Aurora police are asking the public for help in their investigation involving the beating of a 20-year-old man around 5:50 a.m. Saturday on the 700 block of Prairie Street.

Police say the victim was walking east on Prairie when a man pulled up in a black SUV, similar to a Jeep, got out and asked for money. Police say the man then punched the victim and hit him with a hammer.

The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled without taking any cash. He is described as a Hispanic in his early 20s with short black hair who stands about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds.

Police said there was a male passenger who never got out of the vehicle.

The victim was treated for head and face injuries at an Aurora hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
