Mundelein Days drawing big crowds
Robert Kehrer and his 3-year-old daughter, Vivianne, were passing the time playing a game of bingo Saturday while waiting for the scheduled 2 p.m. start of the carnival at Mundelein Days.
Using a cup of dried pinto beans as markers for their card, they played alongside a few dozen participants under the tent at Kracklauer Park. Bingo was among several activities scheduled throughout the day.
"I haven't played bingo in a long time," Kehrer said. "We're waiting until 2, when the carnival starts, and hopefully, she'll still be awake by then."
Mike Flynn, assistant village administrator, said attendance has been good.
On the Fourth of July, he estimated 3,000-4,000 people were present at the festival while the fireworks program commenced within sight of the festival grounds.
"We've had great crowds," Flynn said. "This is our third day; the first two days were just terrific. You couldn't have asked for better weather or better attendance."
In addition to bingo, Saturday's events included a car show, a pet parade, fire engine rides, kids crafts, a watermelon eating contest and a band later in the day.
Mundelein Days concludes on Sunday.
