Flashing light planned at intersection where girl killed

ASH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A flashing traffic light is planned at a Monroe County intersection where a 17-year-old girl was killed last year in a traffic crash.

The Monroe News reports (http://bit.ly/1ES6mYl ) that the Michigan Department of Transportation has approved the light for the intersection in Ash Township.

Tom and Terry Klocek of Newport had been campaigning for a traffic signal to be installed after their daughter, Chelsea, died following a crash at the site. Tom Klocek says he was hoping for a full traffic signal for the intersection, but he's satisfied with a flashing light.

MDOT spokeswoman Kari Arend says a study of the intersection determined that a flashing light was best suited for the intersection.

Installation is planned later this year.
