Arlington Heights teen faces traffic charges in fatal crash
Arlington Heights police announced Friday that they have filed four traffic charges against a 16-year-old Arlington Heights man whose vehicle struck Barbara Leinonen, 57, of Arlington Heights on March 9. She died two days later.
The teen, who was not identified, was charged with reckless driving, speeding, failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and obstructed windshield.
According to police, about 6:55 a.m., a 2012 Volkswagen GTI was traveling west on Grove Street approaching Kaspar Avenue and struck Leinonen in the crosswalk. The teen's initial court date is scheduled for April 28 in Rolling Meadows.
