Navy: Recruit, 20, dies in training at N. Chicago naval station
U.S. Navy officials say a 20-year-old recruit has died following a training event at its naval station in North Chicago.
Naval Service Training Command spokesman Lt. Matthew Comer said Wednesday that Andrew Adams of Sarasota, Florida, lost consciousness during downtime Monday at the Naval Station Great Lakes north of Chicago. He says Adams was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
His cause of death isn't known. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating.
Comer says Adams completed a capstone training event Sunday and had been in training since Oct. 7. He was scheduled to graduate Friday and was going to be an avionics technician.
