The schools can't do it all
This topic is been drilling itself into the ground for years. I personally feel very strong about uncovering the real problem. The topic wanders over proposed solutions that will never be serviceable.
The repetitive call for more funding is ill footed as most taxpayers wonder where the money, already accessed, went? My family currently pays $600 a month to U-46 and I cannot help but feel that my neighbors and fellow community members wonder if another $100. or $200. a month will be spent effectively.
I strongly feel that at the root of this ongoing argument is — hold it — Parental Involvement. I would confidently claim that most teachers would agree.
The lead article in the June 25 Daily Herald's opinions section has a comment that purportedly is reflective as to what is required to get this system fixed. It states, ”If the parents don't come to the conferences, the conferences go to them”. Really!
There are parents that immerse themselves in concern but the vast majority do not as they do not have the energy after both parents work or the single parent works either to make the BMW payment or survive.
Day and evening care facilities are flourishing. Ask the teachers; they are in the trenches. They have the meat of the problems daily.
Finally, our economy is push, push on spending and acquiring and we have responded with things but not real family or personal worth. Our schools cannot raise out children nor can they accommodate all cultures and be able to remain focused and efficient.
