Armed robbers fire shots in Elgin

Armed robbers took a wallet and fired shots at their victims, but no one was harmed Monday night in Elgin, police said.

Elgin police responded at about 10:30 p.m. Monday to the 0-100 block of Mulford Drive where two males, ages 23 and 27, reported they had been standing in the street fixing one of the victims' vehicles when they were approached by three robbers, all men.

One of the robbers had a handgun and demanded money. One of the robbers then took one of the victims' wallets and at some point fired the handgun toward the victims.

The three robbers, described as black men, 6 feet tall and wearing black clothing, fled in a silver sport utility vehicle.

Detectives from Elgin's major investigations division are investigating.
