1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at Chicago Nordstrom
A man shot a woman in a Nordstrom store in Chicago's River North neighborhood Friday night before fatally shooting himself, police said.
News affairs spokesman Hector Alfaro said police received a call about a shooting on the second floor of the store at 8:30 p.m. He said the man was found dead upon on arrival. The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Alfaro said the woman was a seasonal employee. Their names and ages were not immediately available.
Police told ABC 7 the shooter was the woman's current or ex-boyfriend.
"She was working up on the second floor when he approached her, fired one shot, which struck her. He then turned the gun to himself, shot and killed himself," said Chief John J. Escalante,
The store was full of shoppers on Black Friday. Witnesses told ABC 7 they heard shots and ran out of the store.
"Everyone was just running, and like, I'm a big guy and people were knocking me over. My feeling was just, get the hell out of there. So everybody runs out the back and I'm basically saying to people, we need to get out of the building," said Scott Balloch, a shopper.
