Get tips on encouraging youth to do service

Join HandsOn Suburban Chicago from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, for "The New Generation of Volunteers: Engaging Youth to Meet Mission," at the HandsOn Suburban Chicago office at 2121 S. Goebbert Road, in Arlington Heights.

Learn, discuss and get ideas for engaging youth in the mission of your organization.

Kathleen Recchia and Amy O'Donnell will highlight three tactics used to better involve young volunteers at JourneyCare. Their 2014 MKL Youth-in-Action Day of Service project (sponsored by HOSC) called "Soup & Stories," effectively used youth volunteers in a unique and meaningful way to serve their mission to make every moment count for those touched by serious illness and loss. This project can easily be repeated.

HOSC staff Lisa Larsen, director of School and Youth Engagement and Mhari Goldstein, manager of School and Youth, will share new information on generationOn opportunities for the upcoming year.

Kathleen Recchia, director of Innovative Services, oversees JourneyCare's Volunteer department. Recchia is an expert at designing innovative and effective programs that meet recipients at their point of need.

Amy O'Donnell, lead volunteer coordinator, is coordinating many of JourneyCare's volunteer initiatives and process improvement plans to bolstering the capacity building initiatives related to JourneyCare's volunteer program.

Coffee, tea and bagels will be provided to participants.

HandsOn Community partners can attend for free; non-partners are $15. Register at HandsOnSuburbanChicago.org/workshops. Parking is in lot B, by the flagpole. Enter the building at Door 2 and the receptionist will direct you to the meeting room.
