Indiana courts press case for $5 million for e-filing system
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana courts are seeking an additional $5 million in the new state budget for an electronic filing system that will allow litigants to submit paperwork online and give the public free access to court records.
The e-filing plan calls for the system to be piloted in a handful of counties this year and in the state's appellate courts. The Times in Munster reports (http://bit.ly/1JtPiHH ) the pilot counties would include one using the court's Odyssey case management system and one running a different system.
Supreme Court Justice Steven David and Court of Appeals Judge Paul Mathias are leading the e-filing effort.
Mathias says Indiana residents expect electronic access.
Gov. Mike Pence didn't include the money in his proposed budget, but Mathias says he's received positive feedback from lawmakers.
