Barrington's village hall evacuated after gas leak

Barrington firefighters reported that a gas leak connected to downtown construction forced village hall to be evacuated for five hours Friday.

Firefighters said construction crews were excavating on the 100 block of West Station Street at the time of the gas main leak, which is still under investigation.

Fire personnel were called to the scene about 10:45 a.m.

Meanwhile, village hall was evacuated.

After Nicor completed repairs and the leak was under control, the scene was reopened at 4:15 p.m., firefighters said.
