No one injured, 11 units severely damaged in Palatine apartment fire
A fire at a Palatine apartment building rendered 11 units uninhabitable Wednesday morning, but no one was injured, fire officials said.
Palatine Battalion Chief Rob Kluzek said all residents had evacuated by the time fire crews arrived at 15B Dundee Quarter Drive on the city's north side around 8:30 a.m. The fire had spread to the building's roof by the time firefighters arrived.
Two fire crews fought the fire inside the building, while another poured on water from the outside, Kluzek said. The fire was put out at 9:38 a.m.
Several fire departments responded to the call. Kluzek said 34 firefighters and seven command staff members were on the scene to battle the blaze.
Palatine police helped with the evacuation, and the Red Cross helped residents displaced by the fire, Kluzek said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
