20-something candidates win at least 3 Indiana mayoral races

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) - Candidates in their 20s have been elected mayor in at least three Indiana cities.

Twenty-six-year-old Republican Matt Gentry won Lebanon's election with nearly two-thirds of the vote. Gentry tells The Lebanon Reporter he's ready for the learning curve of leading the 16,000-person community near Indianapolis.

Gentry is a former Indiana House Republican staffer and works for the political consulting firm Mark It Red that's led by his father Mike Gentry.

The mayoral winner in Delphi was 25-year-old independent candidate Shane Evans, who graduated this year from Indiana University's law school. Evans tells the (Lafayette) Journal & Courier his primary focus will be attracting young families to the 3,000-person city.

Voters in Frankfort re-elected Republican Mayor Chris McBarnes, who won his first term four years ago at the age of 23.
