Long-vacant Palatine gas station to be demolished
The abandoned gas station near the intersection of Northwest Highway and East Wilson Street in Palatine that has been vacant for more than nine years will be demolished this year to make way for new commercial buildings, according to village staff.
Director of Planning and Economic Development Ben Vyverburg said Chicago-based Clydesdale North America and Vine Property Group have applied for permits to demolish the old gas station at 107 N. Northwest Hwy. and the adjacent vacant commercial office building, located at 121 N. Northwest Hwy.
Vyverburg said the gas station was vacant when he started working at the village in 2006.
The lawyer representing both companies did not return a call for comment.
Vyverburg said the companies plan to build two new commercial buildings. He said the most recent plan the village received called for one of the buildings to be an auto parts accessory store, although no future tenants have been identified.
The plan also calls for the property to be subdivided, which the village must sign off on. The matter will go before the village plan commission at a meeting at 8 p.m. on Sept. 1.
