Some U of I faculty remain angry over professor
URBANA - Some members of the faculty at the University of Illinois say they remain angry over the decision not to hire a professor because of his profane, anti-Israel Twitter messages.
Communications professor Susan Davis was among those who lined up Monday during the annual faculty meeting to speak to Chancellor Phyllis Wise and President Robert Easter about Steven Salaita. Salaita in 2013 accepted an offer to teach at the campus. But the offer was rescinded after critics objected to his messages.
According to The News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1p8XBgL ), Davis worries the American Association of University Professors will censure the university. She said that would amount to public shaming.
But others such as physics professor George Gollin believe the tension will ease.
Wise said she needs to work on ending division on campus.
