Arcada Theatre to honor organist with concert

Submitted by Onesti Entertainment

On Sunday, Jan. 19, the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. in St. Charles, will host a special day in honor of the Arcada organist Jim Shaffer, who died in late November at age 78. Shaffer was a longtime volunteer who played the theater’s historic pipe organ before each show.

At 2 p.m., they will pay tribute to Shaffer with a special organ concert by three of the area’s top pipe organists. They will also show a silent film classic short by Laurel & Hardy, backed by the pipe organ.

Admission will be $10 at the door.

All proceeds will benefit the Arcada Theatre Pipe Organ Maintenance Fund. The fund managed by the Chicago Area Theatre Organ Enthusiasts. Shaffer was a past president of CATOE and recently served as treasurer of the group.

Join in “Jim Shaffer Day” and help “Keep the Arcada Pipe Organ Alive.”
