Firefighters save fisherman who fell through ice near Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Firefighters have rescued a man who fell through the ice while fishing on Prairie Creek Reservoir near Muncie.

The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1wDRr1c ) reports the man, whose name had not been released, was in the water for nearly an hour Thursday afternoon. A Muncie police officer on the scene said the man was roughly 350 yards from shore.

A firefighter on an ice sled reached the man, who was clinging to the ice. The sled was pulled back to shore using rope attached to an SUV.

The newspaper says the man appeared alert and conscious. Firefighters removed much of his clothes and wrapped him in a blanket. He was being treated Thursday evening at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Temperatures during the ice rescue were in the mid to upper 50s.
