Organizers receive $200,000 grant for Iowa art installation

WAUKEE, Iowa (AP) - A $200,000 state grant has been awarded to the organizers of a proposed public art installation along a popular trail in central Iowa.

Jim Miller, chairman of the Public Art Committee, says the money will help sculptor David Dahlquist and his team build the pergola structure at the Waukee trailhead of the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (http://bit.ly/1Kz6ygk ) the installation will be 340 feet long with a canopy that will be 15 feet tall and 18 feet wide.

The Raccoon River Valley Trail stretches across three counties and 14 communities in central Iowa. State officials say more than $600,000 has now been raised.
