Porto beats Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Champions League

HAIFA, Israel (AP) - Porto moved closer to a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday after easing to a 3-1 victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Group G.

Cristian Tello pounced on a misplaced pass by defender Eytan Tibi to put the group leaders ahead in the 19th minute.

Andre Andre headed in the Portuguese side's second goal soon after the break and Tello teed up Miguel Layun for the third in the 72nd to put the match beyond Maccabi's reach.

Eran Zahavi won a penalty three minutes later after being fouled by Maxi Pereira and the Maccabi captain converted the spot kick for a consolation goal.

The victory moved Porto onto 10 points, while Maccabi remains without a point after four consecutive defeats.
