Palatine man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting girl

A 45-year-old Palatine man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, court records show.
Jose Alfredo Vargas-Guzman was sentenced last week to six years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
He received credit for 114 days in custody.
Additionally, Vargas-Guzman was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, court records show. He was also ordered to pay $694 in fines, according to court records.
Authorities say Vargas-Guzman inappropriately touched the girl in March. She told her parents, but because they were unfamiliar with the justice system, they did not immediately contact the police, prosecutors said.
