Pelini takes over at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Bo Pelini says he didn't take the coaching job at Youngstown State to be a "stepping stone" for his next move.

Fired at Nebraska, Pelini was introduced as the Penguins coach Wednesday and said his goal is to make "this the best football program in the country." The 47-year-old grew up, played and coached high school football in the Youngstown area and said when the job opened up "it was very appealing to me."

Pelini won at least nine games in each of his seven seasons with the Cornhuskers. He said he didn't come to Youngstown State to "move after a year or two."

Pelini will now work under former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel, the school's president. Youngstown State was a Division I-AA (now FCS) powerhouse, winning four national championships under Tressel, who went on to win a title at Ohio State.
